ESXi "Feature 'Virtual SMP' not licensed, requires 24 have 8"

Hello,
My ESXi/EVE installation has been offline for a few months. I am having trouble bringing it back online:
"Failed to power on virtual machine EVE-NG. Tehre are insufficient licenses to complete this operation...."
"•Feature 'Virtual SMP' not licensed, requires 24 have 8"


I have made this work -- by lowering my EVE cpus to 8.
Is there an inexpensive remedy for this situation?

ESXi - with only one VM right now - EVE-NG (ubuntu 64-bit)
ESXi-6.5.0-20170104001-standard (VMware, Inc.)

Dual XEON - CPU X5680 @ 3.33GHz "24 logical processors"

Please elaborate. I always believed that the ESXi was "free".

Is this the only way to get EVE-NG working at full-capacity on VMware ESXi ?
What is the minimum cost to get all vCPU's working for EVE-NG?

Why is this limitation not highlighted in the documentation? Is it a new limitation?

Ìndeed, but we don't sell ESXi.
Users have to own right license to runs ESXi.

You just have to input a valid license into your ESXi to be able to use all CPUs and all cores....

Hello ecze,
I apologize for my earlier post. I was very frustrated with my server.
I was finally able to fix it with a trial license.

I think I may try to make this server a "bare install". Do you think this is a better strategy for performance?
