On the subject above, i can't connect the nodes when they are powered on.

I am only using a free version at home, is this normal?

Do i have to upgrade to the paid version to be able to connect nodes when they are running?

Normal behaviour in community version.
If you really want this option you need to go for Pro (paid) version of Eve-ng.
