need upgrade help, currently at 4.01

Hi -
We've been a bit lazy about keeping Eve Pro up to date. We are running 4.01 on Ubuntu 18.04 from a VM downloaded in 2022 [ it works, so we decided to leave it alone...]
i now need to get current and while there are easily found instructions to upgrade from 5 to 6, i'm unable to locate anything on upgrading 4 to 5 or, even better, 4 directly to 6. Can someone point me in the right direction?
I am guessing i can do a 'do-release-upgrade' to get Ubuntu up to date and then do the EVE upgrade(s) - true?
i ask because eve seems kinda fragile sometimes and i can't afford the time to fix something i mess up due to ignorance
