Issues with communication from host to eve-ng static IP

Hello all. I'm trying to get my network setup for some CCIE labs and i'm having a lot of trouble here with something. I have been following this: https://nickccieprogress.blogspot.com/2 ... e-atc.html
Basically, this guy is able to push all of the configs to his routers rather than re-ip one by one and setup the necessary configs manually, which saves a TON of time. Problem is, I'm using ESXi 6.0 for my O/S to install the eve-ng VM. The management NIC works fine. I'm able to get to the GUI no problem. That second interface though, I for the life of me, cannot get to work. My MAC has a vmnet1 IP of 172.16.55.1. Per the article, I setup pnet1 as 172.16.55.2. I cannot ping .1 from .2 or vice versa.
For the hell of it, I added another NIC to my windows VM and made that 172.16.55.3. I could ping WITHIN the ESXi environment, but can't ping out to my host.
Any ideas here? I've hit a wall at this point.
Thanks.
