HD space gets used up

Post by nightdreamer0 » Fri Mar 01, 2019 7:08 am

Hello,
I have EVE in a VM and it takes up space quite rapidly without doing something (e.g creating new labs)
It was almost 100% so i recently added up a second 10GB partition. Still the free space gets used up quite rapidly.

root@eve-ng:~# uname -a
Linux eve-ng 4.9.40-eve-ng-ukms-2+ #4 SMP Fri Sep 15 02:07:02 CEST 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
root@eve-ng:~# df -H
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
udev 17G 0 17G 0% /dev
tmpfs 3.4G 234M 3.2G 7% /run
/dev/mapper/eve--ng--vg-root 36G 29G 5.5G 84% /
tmpfs 17G 0 17G 0% /dev/shm
tmpfs 5.3M 0 5.3M 0% /run/lock
tmpfs 17G 0 17G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
/dev/sda1 495M 162M 308M 35% /boot

Of course it does, because when you create labs with qemu nodes, they are making temporary hdd for each node in the lab, where are saved lab node settings.
Workaround:
1. wipe lab (means it will clean up lab temp folder and free up space), lab is not deleted but cleaned saved lab content
2. add new hdd to EVE

Thanks for answering. Still i do not get it :)
I have this EVE VM for over two years with IOS images. I never had problems. It seems problems started when i started using IOS-XR (just a guess)
What takes up space although i do not create new labs? In the current ones, i do not save them each time i use them. The only difference i see is about the XR images where they save the commited configs.
What exactly do you mean "wipe" the labs? Please guide me to free up space (obviously without deleting my labs and the initial configs of the devices)
Thank you

you have EVE over 2 years?? :)

Well for advice come to Live EVE chat
https://www.eve-ng.net/live-helpdesk
use your google account or create new for chat.

EVE VM is specially created with small HDD to be easy to download it and install.
It is strongly recommended to add second hdd immediately after setup EVE,
and it is 100Gb-2T HDD !!
for labs etc..

1. EVE has config export feature, all info is given in Documentation section or cookbook section 8.1.7.5
2. You can export running cfg for your lab before you wipe node, right click on node in topology/wipe.
EVE cookbook section 8.7.3
