I have been using EVE-NG community edition for quite some time with little to no issues, however I thought I'd finally purchase a license and upgrade to Pro. Per the instructions, I first have to update to the latest community edition, which I was able to do, but after the reboot I no longer had network access. Attempting to restart the networking service simply resulted in an error saying that it "failed to start Raise Network interfaces" and that my primary network interface/device couldn't be found. I was using EVE-NG with a 10G Mellanox card on pnet4 as my primary network interface and it was working fine before the update. I tried switching back to one of the copper interfaces using pnet0 and edited my /etc/network/interfaces to reflect the change but that didn't work either. I even tried re-running the startup script but it can't find eth0 either.
Is there an easy fix for this or should I just try to back up my labs somehow and then reinstall?

Re: Update of Community Version Broke Networking
It was a bare metal install on an HP DL360p G8 server with 2x Xeon E5-2640's and 64 gig of ram. Since the Ubuntu server installer has known issues and would not install 16.04 directly, I had to install 14.04 first, and then upgrade to 16.04 - and it worked great. However, I ran into an issue when upgrading my community version to latest which broke my network connectivity.
So I have attempted to reinstall everything from scratch and I have gotten as far as running the update-grub command which renames your network interfaces upon reboot, but rather than rename my network interfaces, they stayed the same and it has once again broken my network connection. If I edit /etc/network/interfaces and rename my primary network interface to what it was to start with, then networking comes back.
Any thoughts?

Re: Update of Community Version Broke Networking
***UPDATE***
So in the process of trying to get Ubuntu server reinstalled from a USB stick, I have tried several well known USB flashing tools on my Windows 10 laptop. These include:
LinuxLiveUSB Creator (LiLi)
Rufus
Universal USB Installer
UnetBootin
Many of these would get as far as installing the operating system, but upon reboot it would break something like my networking capabilities, or it wouldn't survive the reboot post-installation at all and just boot into a black screen.
So as last resort I decided to just use the usb creation tool natively found in PopOS 18.04 (since I run this as my full time desktop OS), called Popcicle. And for whatever reason, installing 16.04 via this method just worked. Initial install survived a reboot and I've been able to get my network interfaces renamed to "ethX", and install EVE-NG Pro edition. Plus all pNET interfaces are visible now.
It was a bit disconcerting that I had such an inconsistent experience from such a simple task as flashing a USB stick and installing linux on this server platform, but I'm glad I got it working. I have purchased a Pro license and will be up and running today.
