Loopback Interface VMware® Workstation 16 Pro

Post by larrykuntz » Wed Mar 10, 2021 4:55 pm

I am trying to connect my lab using VMware® Workstation 16 Pro to my Windows 10 loopback adapter. I need to do it this way because I am running Palo Alto firewalls in my lab. It works better for me to be able to use the loopback IP address to get to the Palo Alto management interface gui. I tried to follow the instructions in the cookbook for an alternative however I am a dyslexic person and sometimes things do not work well for me. If you could help me with some simple steps it would help me greatly.

Thank you in advance for your help and assistance.

Larry

P.S. If you know of a YouTube video that does that I would appreciate the link.

Actually MS loopback interface is nothing else as extra appendix for such purpose.
Same you can achieve connect your lab nodes and manage from native host using regular VMnet interface.

I am sorry that I do not understand your response. Will you please elaborate more? I have setup the loopback and can ping it from a command prompt on my Windows 20 machine. Then, I have assigned the loopback adapter to a VM Worksation Network adpater 3 on my Eve- VM. I can ping the IP of the Network adapter from the VM inside the Eve VM however I cannot ping the adapter that is on the same subnet from the Palo Alto virtual machine. Thank you for helping me. I greatly appreciate it.

Further to my post I have attached
evelab.gif
a diagram that I thought might help show what I am trying to do. I have the loopback addresses setup on my Windows 10 machine but I am missing something that I need to do so get network setup so it will allow me to ping 10.10.10.1 from 10.10.10.2 I cannot do this at present. I am using VMWare Workstation 16. I can ping 10.10.10.2 from inside the Eve console but I am cannot ping 10.10.10.1 from Eve console nor can I ping 10.10.10.2 from the Palo Firewall. If someone can help with step do so this it would greatly help me. I have limited memory on my PC so being able to do this without having to setup a host like a Windows 10 machine inside Eve would greatly help me.

Read EVE cookbook section about clouds and networking.
MS loopback interface is not required here
https://www.eve-ng.net/index.php/docume ... -cookbook/

You are trying to use GNS3 old method... no need it here

Thank you for your reply. As mentioned I am a dyslexic person and when I read cookbook it did not help me. I was hoping you would have some instructions that would make it easier for me to follow. If not I understand and thank you for pointing me to the book.
