CISCO L2 Switch stop working after while

Post by wabbot22 » Thu Apr 27, 2023 9:38 am

Hi,

I use Linux EVE-NG-PRO 5.17.8-eve-ng-uksm-wg+ #1 SMP PREEMPT x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
which is bare metall installed on a Server 2 x E5 2690 256GB RAM 500GB free Disk space.

I´ve build some CISCO Labs for my certifications and I´ve got some trouble with L2 switches in the labs.
After a while some links for example between router and switch stop working. With Packet capture I can see that in the most cases
The link works only in one direction. In the other direction I can see, that traffic leave the switch, but doesn´t reach the router.
I´m sure that the reason will located at the switch, because all other links works fine.
For the switch it makes no difference which type ( viosl2-15.2 or iol i86bi_LinuxL2-AdvEnterpriseK9-M_152).
With both I got the same trouble. The images are ok, because If I use them with CML they works fine.
I´ve also checked the EVE-NG and use the switches on an EVE-NG community Server which runs on vmware, but with the same result.

To fix that problem I need to stop every Node and restart again, than the links works fine for a while....

Do anyone have an Idea what I can do/troubleshoot to get a stable LAB ?

Thanks !!!

How are you doing on memory consumption? I've noticed when my labs reach 75% of my system capacity. Things start acting up. Today it was a Nexus 9300 going directly into loader.

I'm running on a HP Proliant 360 Gen7 rack server with 120 GB of ram.

Hi and thanks for your answer,

I use a RX200 S7 with 256GB RAM, actually 10% used,
so I don´t think, that it´s a memory leak.
But after a reboot of the Switch, it works again for several hours.
It´s not fixed, but I can work with the lab....

As L2 switches I do recomment use IOL
It is more stable and 10x times faster than vIOS L2
