EVE stuck on splashscreen after upgrade to 2.0.3-84

FINAL SOLUTION:

First, thanks to UD for helping me out.

I ended up having to replace my ESXi 5.5 host with version 6.0.U2 - I tried ESXi 6.5, but had many problems with my local storage continuously disconnecting/re-connecting which caused extremely poor EVE VM performance and sometimes EVE crashing.

So in short, the solution for me was to upgrade ESXi 5.5 to ESXi 6.0.U2.

EVE 2.0.3-84 is now running very smooth, but took 3-days to recover from the EVE upgrade.
